Myrtle and Ivan Allen opened their home, Ballymaloe House as a restaurant in 1964 and it later developed into one of Ireland’s foremost Country House Hotels, recognised as a home of Irish country cooking and warm hospitality. Today their family continues the essential spirit of Ballymaloe House, rooted in the relationship from farm to table, underlying the elegance of Irish Country House Cooking.
About The Experience
Are you an early riser? Well this is a “behind the scenes” experience to wake up for. Step into the kitchen and work side by side with the Ballymaloe Pastry Chef. Roll up your sleeves and learn the secrets of Ballymaloe bread baking. Remember, rarely are two Irish Soda Breads the same! You will bake Myrtle’s legendary Brown Yeast Bread, Irish Soda Breads and help the Professional Team of Chefs prepare all the freshly baked loaves for the house’s renowned Breakfast Buffet. And you won’t leave empty handed, you will take with you, your own home baked loaves of bread and individual copies of the recipes.

This experience takes place within the working pastry kitchen of Ballymaloe House, alongside the breakfast chefs and is very much a ‘behind the scenes’ experience.

Directions
Ballymaloe House is a 40-minute drive from Cork city, and 15 minutes from Midleton train station.
From Midleton drive towards Cloyne and Ballymaloe House is a couple of miles outside Cloyne towards Ballycotton – well signposted.
